tube rolling for jolida 302B
« on: 8 Dec 2011, 10:59 pm »
I understand that there are at least a couple of folks on this forum that are familiar with this amp and how different tubes effect the sound.  I will be mating the amp with the SongTowers (standard version) and looking for that sweet midrange, but also getting as tight a bass response as possible.  Is this a dream or a possibility.  I listen to alternative rock, bluegrass, jazz and other rock styles.  Thanks for your help.

Try replacing the stock el34's with jj or gold lion kt77. There an el34 on steroids.

I didn't know that the el34 could be replaced by kt77s on a jolida 302B.

I used the SED "winged C" EL34's with my Jolida and ST's and it was a big improvement over the stock EH tubes.

I would consider rolling the 12AT7s and 12AX7s first. I got at least as much if not more improvement in the JD1000 amp by doing this, and it can be a lot less expensive. The JD1000 is basically a doubled up version of the 302 (100 watts vs. 50). then I'd go for the power tubes in 6 months or so.
Just a thought.

and what would you recommend for tubes for the 12AT and 12AX?  Did you find help in the midrange and bass?

Email Jolida for tube replacements and you'll see KT77 and others you can substitute.

I ended up with Sovtek 12AX7LPS and Mullard CV4024 at the recommendation of Jim McShane, tube vendor. I replaced the stock tubes.
The improvement that I heard was a smoother sound pretty much top to bottom. An edginess with the stock tubes, not with the new tubes.

I just saw someone recommend Russian 6P3S-E's for the outputs. I didn't hear them in my Jolida but did use them in another amp I have and think they are good tubes. McShane also sells them. They are NOS and not expensive. I'm not sure of the compatibility with the 302 though so I would check with Jolida.
