Station Eleven starts out in 2022 with a bad flu season that kills most of the world's population. The series then moves between 2022 and 2042 following the survivors through their journey. Station Eleven doesn't dwell on the science fiction post-apocalyptic horrors like Mad Max or any of the other fantastical movies that have come out, instead it is a more realistic depiction of strangers dealing with loss, memories and making new friends and relationships.

The new world the survivors make is rich, fulfilling and filled with art but also sometimes deadly. The Profit is an enigmatic character that has to be dealt with. The series is life affirming and not depressing with excellent acting throughout. Mackenzie Davis plays 28 year old Kirsten while the wonderful and scene stealing Matilda Lawler plays 8 year old Kirsten.
