The best interpretations
« on: 3 Jul 2023, 03:12 pm »

On my second trip to Hungary (in the mid 80's when they were still behind the Iron Curtain) I bought Mozart Requiem LP. Produced by Hungaroton and conducted by Janos Ferencsik, it got me hooked on the Requiems. Now I have several interpretations, but this one is my No. 1 favorite (for me, it beats von Karajan's version by far, far). Some 15 years later I found a brand new CD, in the US, the same Hungaroton release!

Pronunciation, layering of the vocals and intertwining with the orchestra always gives me something new to listen to. Recording quality is amazing too, I am sure YouTube will not do it justice, but here it is, for reference:

What are your favorite performances (any music genre)?

Great topic. I must mention many álbums from the Hungaroton classical label.
