Imagine a single site that allowed you to literally browse the globe for radio stations as if your radio dial was thousands of miles wide.

Radio Garden: http://radio.garden/visit/karmiel/1SoXdrMG

Just click on a dot and listen. It sometimes takes 3-4 seconds to tune in, so if you get static at first, just wait a few seconds.

I just found an American country music channel south of Zurich, Switzerland, to the west of Rapperswil. Not what I was expecting. Very cool site, though.

One thing I learned from randomly clicking around Radio Garden was how pervasive modern synthesized techno-driven music has become. Most of it had a strong beat and repetitive, meaningless lyrics. Dance music. It emanated from nearly every country I clicked on from Israel to Scotland.

I can understand there is a time and place for that on a dance floor on Saturday night, but that doesn't seem to be something you'd just casually listen to at the office or in the car. I was expecting more ethnic or local music. More classical and jazz stations. Oldies, classic rock and, of all things, U.S. country music were all pretty well-represented.
