Tyll Hertsens Retiring from Innerfidelity

Tyll Hertsens is retiring from doing Innerfidelity. Too bad; he was one of the more dependable reviewers out there, willing to call out manufacturers for things that didn't impress. Also didn't know that the site had changed hands. Judging from some recent guest reviews, we may be headed towards another 'word-salad' review site. We'll see. He's taking off in an RV for parts unknown. Good luck to him.

He says that's unrelated but it is quite a coincidence. The publishing group also contains Stereophile, which I hear is going 100% subjective like TAS, so we shall see what changes will be wrought.

A lot of audio writers are just good BSers who have figured out a way to monetize their audio fetish, so Tyll will be missed, by at least some of us.

Where did you hear this?

The UK company AVTech Media Ltd are the new owners of Stereophile, Sound and Vision, AnalogPlanet, Innerfidelity, etc. The press release listed Paul Miller as the UK/US editorial contact. AVTech's Hi-Fi News has included many measurements and analysis by Paul Miller. It seems unlikely that Stereophile would go full subjective unless they are aiming for wide distribution Hi-Fi News stateside and needed to brand/position Stereophile differently.

Looking at the pics, the van conversion went real well. I think it was just within the last year he had a post about it and it looked about half done at that time.

He had a great balance between market-savvy (the whole market) and audiophile sensibilities.

I read the 'deep end' audio magazines for laughs as there are no $80K audio systems in my foreseeable future.
