I do most of my listening via laptop.  Is there a headphone amp that I can connect via USB or is there another way to connect a headphone amp to my Macbook Pro?
I was considering purchasing the AKG-K701 as that is what lead me to get a headphone system

DigitalDude there are a bunch of amps-USB DAC's-etc..you might want to check out:

The DAC I chose, Grant Fidelity Tube DAC-09 does USB, Headphone etc..as does Maverick D1 and others, here are a couple links:

http://www.mavaudio.com/base/

the above two are basically identical, FWIW-Cheers..Ed L. :thumb:

I have recabled 701 as one of my reference amps. From a purist perspective:

Have a
1. Separate source
2. Separate headphone amp
3. Recabled 701

Depending on your budget - you could get a USB Dac plugged into a separate headphone amp or a usb dac/head-amp combo - headphone.com has very good selections.

701 need to be
1. recabled
2. have powerful / high current amp to really shine ... hybrid amps can add some tube warmth / coloration / tube-rolling fun/flexibility.
3. Burn-in for at least 300 hours ...

Of course you can pick and choose what you want to do / afford - I am just sharing my experience ...

Have fun!
