Dan, Please tell us about your new Amps?

Hi Dan,
I first began to question what you are using currently when I viewed your RMAF room pictures on Audiogon, this morning. As a Simaudio amp owner, myself, I then noticed that you have your W-3 up for sale. What are those tasty looking mono-blocks and what made you switch to these from the Sims?

Inquiring minds wish to know these things. Are you starting a new trend?

Well, I really like the Sim Audio amp and they really do make a great product.

I am, however, currently using Channel Islands Audio monoblocks - VMB-1's.  They are truly exceptional and are cost-effective enough that I can biamp my system with four monoblocks.

I am looking forward to the Digital Amps Next!!!

Not sure about mods for this unit.  I have discussed the design with Dusty Vawter and I don't really know that there is much that we could do to improve upon them.

Thanks,

Dan

Why just cryo-treat, when you can actually operate the amps at or below liquid helium temperatures?

I have been playing around with special cooling systems (based on tokamak fusion reactor technology), and the benefits of  running  cold  can be substantial.

A bit costly though...

Dan?

This is a possibility, but not being sure exactly what is going on inside the digital modules, I would be concerned about damaging some of the IC's and output filter inductors.

Dan,

Over on the Channel Island Audio circle you mentioned on December 11, 2004 cost effective mods to the VMB-1 monoblock chip amps that offered improvements.

Could you describe those mods and the cost?

TIA

Cost to mod a pair of VMB-1's = $300 + shipping.

Thanks,
