Dan,
How close are we talking here. Lets say I purchase a 563 for $150 and get the Basic multi channel mod w/Bybees. I am now into this for $720. What are we talking about here in performance relative to the Denon 2900 with basic multichannel of which the mod itself is $850 (more than I have in the total 563 package). I am looking for apples to apples performance comparison and then I will take into consideration the cost factor. I guess we can factor in your PS upgrades later. Thanks.

Good question and I will answer carefully ;).
The Denon has the better build quality and I believe better DACs.
The Denon has better video.
However, to compare a modified 563A w/Bybees to a stock Denon is a tough call. I have not done the direct comparison yet, but i do have a stock 2900 and a modified 563A so I will try to do this listening tomorrow.
The other thing is that I am finallizing a power supply upgrade for the Pioneer 563A and most OTHER Pioneer units as well, that will significantly improve their performance by getting the audio circuits away from the stock switch-mode power supply.
Please stay tuned...
Dan

I realize you've got a lot of irons in the fire, but any thoughts throwing your hat into the ring with some Panny mods? Sounds like this is THE bang for the buck piece of '04.

Looking forward to reading about this too.
EDIT: about the 563. So I am on topic....don't want to be associated with topic molesters.... :P

Sorry to go off-topic; I thought I'd posted this under a new topic heading!

Power supply mod design for 563A should be done this week. I am expecting parts and PCB's tomorrow.
I MAY look into the Panasonic unit. I have a customer who is trying to get one in my hands soon.
Thanks,
Dan
