Can't wait to hear it...

300B only works on a few speakers. Same with my 845 amp. Love it, just can't
use it with many speakers...

Well, it’s got two of my favorite tubes (12AX7 and EL84/6BQ5).  The 6BQ5 is a really nice sounding audio tube.  Some of the best sounding gear from days gone by used the 6BQ5.  It’s a favorite of the DIY crowd as well.

Some of the best sounding DIY amps I’ve heard use the 6BQ5 connected to a pair of 5687 driver tubes per side.

I think I heard one of these at a Zu event in Atlanta a few months ago. If the same, it was very nice on the Def IV's.

Decware has also used EL84/6BQ5's in some amps for years, they are special. At 20 wpc this amp should probably be on a "must-hear' list!

The Zen Triode use a EL84 wired as Triode, that is good and inexpensive. :thumb:
This Carver amp seems to use a PushPull pentode circuit, by the hi power 20W p/c, but I fail to find this info on the site.

Hmmm.  I think I might prefer the Music Reference RM-10 at double the power and $150 less.  I think it's purtier too!

I unaware this brand was this good, just read the RM10 page, it is impressive indeed and looks good.

Read the recent Stereophile review of the RM100.  Fremer loved it and even John Atkinson wet his britches over how well it measured.

Totally agree.  I borrowed an RM-10 from a friend to review the Silverline Minuet Supreme Plus mini monitors, and they were a very good match.

pretty much the same amp as the Manley Mahi, except the Mahi is a monoblock configuration

The Mahis use a 12AT7 input and a 6414 driver, and is Parallel Push Pull, can be used Triode or Ultra Linear. Some pretty significant differences.
I own a Manley Stingray which is the integrated version of the Mahis basically. Nice amp.

I stand corrected, my focus was EL84 and output power  I own Mahis and like them a lot

No worries. I would think that the biggest difference between your Mahis and my Stingray is the preamp you're using vs. the Stingray's volume control (dual mono of the Mahis helps I'm sure, but not to the same extent...)

Anybody knowledgeable on the subject care to theorize on how/why the configuration of the Carver amp might sound different than the Manley amps? Just cuious.

Hi Tom! I was at the same event as Tom, and I was thinking the same thing. If this really was what we heard there, it was super with the Defs.  :thumb:
