My wife and I have come to this agreement - buy a 42 this year, and install over the fireplace. Next Xmas move that 42 to another room, and put up "something bigger"... :icon_twisted:

Should also allow for the maturation of LED and faster LCD in 12 months, as well as price drops on 1080p.

Easier to lose this battle short term to win the war long term!

Now it comes down to Panny vs Samsung for Plasma's.

I will be looking for a decent deal on a 720p 42 plasma in the coming weeks (may wait for Superbowl deals).

Thanks for the advice guys.

Can you buy a 720p plasma?
I thought they're all 1080p?

Congrats on the new tv Mark.

Last year on Boxing day, I walked into Costco and purchased a 46" Sony Bravia 120hz for $1300 and it has been great.

If you have a Costco within reach, wait until Saturday and get yourself a deal!

Oh. I'll be darned.
I guess I never checked. I thought all plasmas are 1080p by default.
Sorry for my "dumbassity".

I lined up at 2001 this AM, and picked up a TCP42X1 (720p, 3 HDMI connections) for $749 plus tax.  Free HD for 6 months through Bell, that is useful.

Perfect unit for me, for now.

I will later today get out to Future shop, and pick up an upconverting DVD player, and a Bell 6131 HD receiver (this one can become a PVR with the addition of an external HD - guess my music collection just shrank a little...).

HDMI and Toslink cables and a mount locally, and I think I can get it all done and hung for $1150 tax in.

Thanks for the coaching guys, looking forward to moving the 32 inch Vega to the bedroom, and getting this Panny hung up for new years.
