This is very well done ! Strong performances all around. I guess I would call this mumble core, as there is no real plot per say.

" Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf are terrific in this funny, charming and grounded film about growing up a girl from a modest family discovering herself and aspiring to more than what is expected of her, and parents making hard sacrifices and letting go. The mother-daughter relationship is complex and portrayed as such, and the friendships seem real and fun."

I liked it quite a bit as well.  It's fun to go back to high school and see the (realistic) struggles they go through.  Very sly humor in this one, too.

Just got to it last night. I usually don't spend much time with teen angst type films, but this was well done. Acting was first rate.

Filmed in my hometown, Sacramento.  Made a big splash because of all the award nominations.  I have not seen it.
