BP17 Cubed inputs with crazy noise!!
« on: 25 Jan 2020, 03:33 pm »
hi, Bryston!

when switching from input 3 to BAL1 input an absolutely LOUD popping noise is coming out of my speakers!!! this happened yesterday for the first time and all of a sudden. turned the unit off and back on with no healing.
all other inputs are ok so far. no monster-noise when switching between them...
i‘m afraid now that the noise from input 3/ BAL1 could damage my speakers or any other part of my system. so i‘m using these inputs not any longer
scary!

any idea what could be the reason?

Is Balanced 1 a balanced source or no input?
Can you change the source and see if its the issue?

James,

bal1 is a balanced source.
disconnected the unbalanced cables from input 3. noise is still there. i‘m using input 3 in bypass mode (rca connection between a receiver and the preamp‘s input).

i could try to use another input in bypass mode to see if the noise is transferable. what do you think?
the problem is that this noise is REALLY UGLY. don‘t want to damage my system you know...?!

thanks,

al.

Can you hear the noise through headphones rather than your speakers?

James,

the headphone thing was a good idea! easier to avoid damage to the speakers :thumb:.
however, i tried input 2 as my bypass input and yes the noise was transferable every now and then. i disconnected the rca cables from input 2 and switched between all inputs (especially BAL1) and the noise was still there every now and then.
so i guess it might be a problem of the bypass circuit itself maybe??

thanks,

al.
