Two PICCOLO questions
« on: 12 Mar 2007, 03:12 pm »
1.  Transformer-based head amps have cable length limitations.  Does the active PICCOLO also suffer?  Can the in and out RCA's be a meter or so?
2.  Estimated current draw/battery life?

1)  No, there are no cabling limitations with the PICCOLO.  It has about 300 ohms output impedance and can drive just about anything.  In fact, it is the same output buffer as used in the ARCHIVER.

With stepups you have to be careful, the output cables have to be short.  Any capacitance on the output will get reflected back onto the cartridge greatly multiplied.  For example, with a 20dB gain, that measly 100pF phonostage and cable loading turns into 0.01uF seen by the cart.  This does not happen with the active gain of the PICCOLO.

2)  Battery life should be about 200 hours for 4 AA alkaline cells.  Or about 8 days.
