Any good road trip stories?
« on: 13 Jul 2012, 03:09 am »
I recently had a short road trip where I drove from the San Fernando Valley to Fresno and timed the music to a tee.  As I was nearing the Grapevine, I cued up some Bartok just in time for the California Wildflowers.  Driving through Bakersfield it was a natural to have some Buck Owens and Merle Haggard.  Rocked the rest of the 99 to Fresno.

Did mostly Jazz on the way back.

In 1979, a buddy and I installed 16 speakers and an awesome 200 watt system into his hotrod 1974 VW Bug. Getting another best friend onboard, we partied it up from the Santa Monica pier to Camp Scheideck. We realized pretty quickly that something was wrong with the tuner, as we got no reception at all. The only cassette we had (to test the new rig) was Joe Walsh's "But Seriously, Folks...".

It was old before we got to the mountains. Once we made it to Scheideck, it turned brutally cold. The high temp was three degrees F, for the entire weekend. Sub-zero during the nights. The VW sounded like it would break if we even tried to start it, and we were there for three days straight.

With Joe Walsh.    Only Joe Walsh.

To this day, I hate and love that album.  :thumb:

As a side note, the two friends and I still work together everyday, even now.  :thumb:

It is noted that you live in So Cal, medium jim. Road trip?

Have fun,

I was nine.

That means you're getting older way faster than I am.

Think about it: In 1979 I was double your age. Now, you're about 85% of mine.

You should try to slow down a bit, Bob.

Oh the memories :thumb: I've got a few I could post from back then but I don't want to sully my reputation  Let's just say it's almost identical yours but involves being escorted to the county line by a Sheriff. I think I'm still not welcome in that county. If it was just one lapse of judgement it might be excusable but....let's just say the word to describe my youth was hellion.

...the stuff we got away with back then. If it were today, I'd just be getting out of the poky.

Din, we'll have to swap stories one of the days.

Not yet. We got them in a little late. Laura is picking corn as I type. We've already made a couple loaves of zucchini bread. We should have cantaloupes and peppers in the next week or so :thumb:

We got zucchinis coming out our ears. But to keep this on topic... I listen to Canned Heat when bringing the produce in from the garden.  :thumb:
