Hi Everyone,

I am a new member to Audio Circle. I joined up today because I have a question about my new to me VR-4 Jr, first version and hope that someone "out here" can help me out.

In the bass module there appears to be a thick heavy gray felt that looks like it has been haphazardly shoved into the port of it. Given the age of the speakers and that I am at least the third owner of them this could be a factory treatment that has just come loose. I have done my best to take a photo of it so that you can see what I am asking about:

I am looking for advice... I can remove the material easier than I can reseat it... If it is something that the factory did I will reseat it... added by an owner it will be removed...

Hi Astro,

This is normal. The stuffing is a folded blanket of damping material and is meant to look like that. If you have the time and energy however and if it bothers you, you can replace it with other stuffing materials. WGH has done this and then some to good effect I've been told.

Yes, you can do all sorts of things to early VR models which will improve imaging, mid-range clarity along with bass definition and range.

My modifications start with Part 2 of a 4 part series
Part 1 (Review): http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=40953.msg395744#msg395744
Part 2: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=44748.0
Part 3: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=72808.0
Part 4: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=90685.0

Sometimes the gray felt is glued to the cabinet sides, other times it is stuffed in, quality control in China was a little lax. I doubt rearranging the felt would make much of a difference unless the port is blocked.
