BDP-3 keeps blowing fuses, any ideas why?
« on: 11 Feb 2021, 06:26 pm »
Hello team,

I experienced recently 4 fuses being blown by the bdp-3 during last month.
I did nothing special (just plug, unplug) when powered on, it blows... what could be the cause?
I really put the exact specs as replacement. And it works a few days. If at some point I unplug and replug, the red power light stays the same and upon first startup
it blows.

The original doesn't exist anymore (blew away).
I'd love to get some original fuses as they seems to be better quality (I see a thicker wire inside).
What I used so far were the commercially available ESKA fuses T315mA Slow-Blow (they don't last more than a few days). https://www.tme.eu/at/details/zkt-0.315a/sicherungen-5x20mm-trage/eska/522-512/

In the picture it's a higher value gold plated fuse I had (2A value I think, that didn't blew yet) and that sounds awful.
I would like to understand what is causing this...

I just realized that message doesn't indicate a blown fuse.  Simply means the line voltage is to low for the linear supply to work.  Or are you seeing that message and then after wards it displays another message?

When I see the message, there is nothing you can do but shutdown the unit. It won't boot. Upon next start, the same message is displayed.
It will never boot.
What really happens behind is that the fuse has blown. Opening the case confirms this.

Bizarre, as you can see in the below image, the error message number incremented from 096 to 097.

I searched my phone for a photo when the original fuse blow off first time (june 2020), at that time error was 000:

The triple 0 in the lower right corner represents what is likely a blown fuse

ok... the value for the previous 4-5 fuses was right but in vain, what can I do to prevent them blowing  :o

Looking closely at this part of the board, it looks a bit burnt, is it a failed component or is it normal ?

@James Tanner, @Chris

Hello James, Chris,

Coming back to you on this issue:
- So I sent out my Bdp-3 to Vienna for repair (on February 26 it got there)
- Edvard Potisk from Avitech and his team investigated it and they let me know that the power supply is to be replaced and that it has been ordered from Canada.
I kindly thank him for his support until now.
- In the mean time, today, after 6 weeks, he confirmed me that:  "Unfortunately we are still waiting on the parts. " and I have no visibility when the part will be received, the product repaired and sent back to me

In this case, as the part is unavailable and the waiting time is unknown, would you consider to send a new product instead as replacement?
Thank you very much and have a good day.

I'll following up with Mike tomorrow morning to see what the hold up, however may not be much we can do right now as Ontario has entered another shutdown.  Also it might be best to email us, your welcome to share content from the emails on audiocircle as well; I only recommend it because we pay closer attention to our inboxes then we do audiocircle.

Is the a AC line voltage problem?
I would get a "Kill-a-Watt" meter and measure the voltage it several wall receptacles throughout the house at different times of day.
To me it sounds like an AC Lost Neutral problem.
