Old one was tired...neighbor hit it with truck last winter. Don't know how old it is but on last legs.

Hatched an idea

Cut some white oak

Assembled

Waiting for mail

That's nice looking, Peter.

Is the cement base simply resting on the gravel or is it anchored into the concrete below?

Keep an eye out for neighbors who decide to play catch up/ one up with you. In a couple years everyone will improve their mailboxes - maybe... :thumb:

Looks like heavy duty mailboxes.   :thumb:

Had an weird uncle who had troubles with hooligans who had pulled his mailbox over with a chain attached to their pickup.  He replaced his mailbox with a concrete filled 4 inch pipe with concrete placed in 3 yards of concrete topped with a channel iron that supported a heavy duty mailbox.  A few days later he found a bumper and chain at the mailbox.

I imagine the neighbors who know me think I'm kooky but harmless. I doubt I'll inspire anything but one can always hope!

Gravity alone anchors it to the earth, that's the way the old one was and it was handy to be able to move it occasionally. I hope it's benign enough not to attract the attention of vandals.

After eyeballing the gamut of mailboxes, some of which are ultra-cheesy or uber expensive, I settled on these, heavily constructed and with luck, will last till I'm gone.

That is super nice!  I like the design, too.  It's great.  I bought a double that was all plastic and put it in, but your probably cost less overall and looks  heck of a lot better.

I keep looking at it and wondering where the tweeters are.

It's a full range mailbox...no tweeter.
