Salk Speakers : Ranked?
« on: 31 Aug 2018, 04:35 am »
Obviously different speakers work better in different spaces.

My question is, how would all of the various models of Salk speakers, even going back to the beginning, rank when compared to each other if they were all in their ideal space?

The offerings have grown substantially over the years, as well as Jim's know-how.

It may be that only Jim or Dennis could really do this justice, but I thought it would be interesting to see what the community thinks.

At best, this question is difficult to answer, and in my opinion, too broad a question.  Too much depends on individual preferences, the space available in a home, and the money one intends to spend.  I'm not surprised that no one has come forward with an answer.

A simpler approach is available on Jim Salk's website, at least for the presently available models.  It breaks down all the models into categories.  Three are linked below.  Within each, the models are listed by price, from low to high.  Also within these lists, you can see 2-ways, 2-way MTM, 3-ways, and more.

Floorstanding Speakers

I've heard more than a few, and have owned two different models, SongTower and Veracity ST speakers.  I know what I prefer, what I can afford, and what I can reasonably put in my home.  But I cannot rank them all as in a Hall of Fame.

Other opinions?

Too tough of a question.

Most impressive speakers I've heard of Jims...

Song 3 Encore - I don't think it's the "Best" Salk. But it is far and away one of the best bang for buck speakers I've heard in my life.

BRM's Exotica 3 (which ironically are for sale) - Not the right speaker for me (a little laid back), but holy crap the bass, the imaging, the build... Just unreal

SoundScape 12 - I've had a chance to demo these in someones home (thanks Marty) - Awesome.
