Upcoming Concert (outings?)
« on: 1 Mar 2004, 02:48 am »
Since Laura (my lovely wife) and I go to a lot of concerts, look for me to be posting Announcements on a regular basis. We go to all kinds of shows, Jazz, Rock, Blues, Classical and the occasional play or musical. We even frequent our local Junior College to listen to the choir, orchestra and jazz band (as I did today to hear Faure's Requiem and some Poulenc).

So here is the first of many concert calendar updates. Don’t worry, I’m not going to inundate you guys with every concert in the city, just the ones we are planning to go to (just in case you any of guys want to join us and make an official outing).

The Pagent, March 10  Wednesday, KebMo
Sounds like Mike (+1), Brad and me (+1) are in

Generations (the Viking) March 15th, Wishbone Ash

Generations (the Viking) March 23rd, Eric Johnson (solo acoustic)

Touhill Center (at UMSL), March 25th, Fosse
Laura and I saw this in Chicago a few years ago. Highly recommended

Fox, May 11th, David Bowie

Fox, May 14, Ron White "Drunk in Public Tour"
This is the guy from Jeff Foxworthy’s Blue Collar Comedy Tour. He is a scream.

Dallas Tx, June 4,5,6 Eric Claptons Crossroads Guitar Festival - see my posting below

I didn't list all of the venues but these are the ones that see most of the major acts. I'll include these everytime I update the concert calendar.
end edit

I usually cruise the venues on Saturday mornings so I’ll post anything that catches my eye on the weekends. If you guys see anything I missed or that looks good to you, just make a post.

Thanks for the tips on the local music, Scott.
I for one appreciate it as I don't look in the paper that much.
Would like to catch Eric Johnson playing acoustic, as Generations is such a great little intimate place to catch tunes at.
But oh, so long a (drunk) ride home... :o

Sure am glad y'all brought up this St. Louis group.

Regards,
DeadFish

Hi Vasu,

I ammended the original post to include links to the local venues. On those sites you can find out about ticketing information. Metrotix is handling the Eric Johnson tickets.

Hey Fish and pjchappy, why don't you drop me a PM with your contact info and I'll add you to the contact list.

OK, this one may be a bit much for some guys but.....

June 4th thru 6th, Sirius (satellite radio) and Eric Clapton are doing the Crossroads Guitar Festival in Dallas.

Heres the official word;
The concert will feature such artists as Eric Clapton and Doyle Bramhall II, J.J. Cale, Larry Carlton, Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Otis Rush, Carlos Santana, Steve Vai, Jimmie Vaughan, Joe Walsh, Pat Metheny, ZZ Top and many more - plus, the extraordinary "house bands" will be none other than Booker T & the MGs, Jimmie Vaughan's band and Eric Clapton's band! Other artists will be announced closer to the festival's dates.

Heres the link to the Sirius website
http://www.sirius.com

Tickets go on sale March 13th. Airfare to Dallas is about $125 on Southwest. Driving takes 12-14 hours.

This should be the do all, end all of guitar concerts. I'm in for sure. Laura and I have seen Clapton open the last 3 US tours in Dallas at Reunion Arena. My brother and probably nephew will be going also (they live in the Arlington area).[/b]
