Which pre for HT bypass?

Okay, time for some newbie questions.

What is a 2-Way Active XO?  Do I need one?

The Audiophile preamp is the only one with an AV bypass (which I do need), so....

The Sabai will have HT bypass (and remote control & phono, btw).

But you'll have to wait a little longer for it....

a 2-Way Active XO allows you to Bi-amp speakers that are two way (two drivers, woofer and tweeter). Instead of a passive crossover inside the speaker cabinet, this device passes frequencies to the appropriate driver electronically.

It is usually frequency adjustable.

Of course you need 1 amp, usually a "monoblock" amp, for each driver. 4 amps for a pair of 2-way speakers.

So you probably don't need one. You no doubt have passive crossovers in your speakers. Ususally you buy specific speakers for the purpose of bi-amping them or tri-amping them.

Hi  dogberry,

Welcome to the IRD forum.

The LLC-A (active crossover) and the LLC-S (remote control) both have HT pass-through.

If you are a newbie, as you say, you may not want to jump into active crossover mode just yet. It requires several extra pieces of gear and you can always move in that direction later.

You should probably get a feel for the kind of standard audio equipment you like first and if you decide to try active later it's pretty easy to make the switch.

Have fun and thanks for your interest.
