Looking for an IEC socket blank
« on: 27 Dec 2022, 02:39 pm »

I would like to find something to fill the hole left from the socket on the back of my Scenario's that is not a piece of mdf of ply to cover the hole. I've looked for a blank of some sort to fill the hole to no avail. So now I turn to you guys to see if anyone else has solved this little issue in the past.

Thanks to any and all who respond,
JCarney

Well I'm not to bright. I did not mention my intent is to use the hole to run the three wires to the panel that come off the transformer that is now in a box outside of the speaker. If I could have found a blank with no prongs or other electric bits I would have drilled a hole in it and used a grommet to seal it. I may just be s.o.l. in this case. I may just have to fashion something to cover the hole and allow my wire to run. Thank You richidoo for helping me again. You rock. I did order those caps thinking they were bigger and would work. They did not work. :duh:

You may be overthinking this.

I would either find find a small aluminum or steel plate, fastening it using the existing screw holes and drill one or three holes into the plate for your wires.

Or I would take an IEC socket and remove the prongs from it. This would leave three holes for the wires.

Problem solved?

Thanks for the compliment!

Couldn't help takin a shot at myself.

I was going to use some half inch mdf I have about, but I like your idea of using metal instead better. Once attached and wired, I can fill that void with silicone or whatever I have handy to make sure it is air tight.

Thanks Doblej!

You can get small pieces of sheet metal at Home Depot or Lowe's.

Amazon too.

That would work as well and likely be easier to cut to shape.

Amazon again.

Thanks JakeJ and Fullrangeman, good suggestions. I'll go fetch something tomorrow and bring my Grandkids along so they can help. It will turn a 20 minute trip by myself into an hour plus with them, but hey, that's the point. :D

Thanks everyone,

A blank wall plate should cost you a couple of buck at your local hardware store and be available in a number of materials including steel, various plastics, and wood.

That's a great idea. I may use that on a completely different project.

Thx, John
