Will a 5R4GY rectifier work in the Clarinet?

Yes, same pins, same heater current, similar voltage drop...the big differences are  the max current, max AC voltage per plate and PIV.  Generally the 5Y3GT is a preamp/ small amp rectifier. The 5R4GY for current hungry amps.

What are you looking to accomplish?

I have a old Coke bottle 5R4GY and I thought that I would try it mainly because it looks cool.I'm not sure that it would have a sonic impact.

You can use either tube.  A real 5Y3 is directly heated, and will power up much quicker.  The 5AR4 (GZ34) types have a built in delay mechanism being indirectly heated.  It is difficult to predict the sonic impacts, but changes will definitely be heard.

I tried the 5R4 in the Clarinet.I would say that it sounded more lively, somewhat less laid back with good solid bass.I had been using a old RCA Coke bottle 5Y3,but I think I will leave the 5R4 in for now.
