Man, so much old school.  Do yourself a favor and order "Sound Roots" by Andy McKee and NEXT direct from its label, Mapleshade.  Uncompressed dynamics, clarity and immediacy to die for, and cooks with butane!

Try zooming out on your screen.  75% should do it.
Thanks for noticing and the suggestion. I normally run my browser at 150% so I did try that, even ran it down to 50% and it simply reformatted the upload window and still did not show the bottom buttons. Any other suggestions most appreciated.

How is the sound on that Benny Green at the VV? I'm a huge fan of VV recordings but do not have that one. Yet. If Allmusic is correct Jim Anderson engineered the date, so I'd imagine it sounds fantastic.

What a band eh!? I'm so glad that this ensemble has become an ongoing project for JZ.  :thumb:

Here's a smoking set from their Marciac gig a few years back where Ribot puts most "guitar gods" on notice. And Joey just kills it with his playing and that big Elvin Jones smile:

Phineas Newborn: Harlem Blues

Phineas: Piano
Ray Brown: Bass
Elvin Jones: Drums

Wonderful album by the sadly underrated pianist from 1969.

The only other thing I can think of right now is to play woith your screen resolution.  The sound on the Benny Green is very good.  The sound on these two are also very good.  Strangley, the albums were released 5 years apart when the recordings actually were mase I think on the same night.

Though I haven't heard that album, I agree he was underrated.  Do you have this one by Phineas?

Could not find a solution via my settings, but found I could upload to the Gallery and post album covers from there. A pita but works for now.

Yes, that Phineas is excellent as well,  he's got quite a discog, albeit a limited one.

If you do digital that Harlem Blues is available in very limited quantities at Elusive Disc as a great, I mean great, sounding XRCD  remastered by Alan Yoshida.  It's on Slamazon new for almost $1500 and used for $250  Saw it on ebay for about $100 used. Just picked it up new for $26.99. Score. Don't wait too long, it's gone at Acoustic Sounds and Music Direct.

Thanks for the heads up.  I found a new redbook cd of Harlem Blues for $5.18 plus shipping from Amazon.  There's also a high-res (44.1/24) copy of We Three (Rudy Van Gelder Remaster) by Paul Chambers and Phineas Newborn and Roy Haynes on Pono Music  for 12.99 which is a very good price.  HD tracks watns 17.99 for the same download.

I have two other very good Phineas Newborn albums:

Love We Three, it recently came out on vinyl as part of their Anniversary series. A fine Hackensack. Need those last two though. The search never ends!

Charles Lloyd: Canto

Charles Lloyd: Tenor, Tibetan Oboe
Bobo Stenson: Piano
Anders Jormin: Bass
Billy Hart: Drums

Shades of the Far and Middle East. Not sure if there is something wrong wit my copy but the last tune, a searching ballad, blasts from the speakers. Seems like a mastering/pressing problem.

Milt Jackson and Coleman Hawkins
Bean Bags

Just picked this LP up and am really enjoying it--a nice mellow swing.

Love all of the great discussion!  Just ordered a German pressing of Here is Phineas and have We Three on my wishlist at Acoustic Sounds.  Thanks!

Yes! Thanks for posting those Phineas releases.  :thumb:
I have none of his recordings although have known about him for many years. Never pursued before as my impression was that he played way too many notes - I am not a big fan of excessive piano flourishes (i.e., Art Tatum, McCoy Tyner, Erroll Garner, etc.), but think I am now ready to delve into Phineas.

Milt Jackson - Memories of Thelonious Sphere Monk.

Sweet jumpin something, if you like bowed bass, what Ray Brown does on "Round Midnight" will have you drop what you are doing, and crank it up.

I really like the way that cut sounds here at home.   :o

Lou Donaldson, "Lou Takes Off". Great stuff! Worth getting even if just for the one nearly 15 minute strollin' blues track, "Strollin' In" - superb playing by all.  :thumb:

Warne Marsh and Lee Konitz, "Live At The Montmartre Club: Jazz Exchange, Vol. 1". No two sax players interplay and play off one another better than these two friends.
Terrific stuff! Vols. 2 and 3 waiting in the wings ...  8)

And Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen ain't no slouch neither!
