Hi James,

I know you guys have been busy with the SP3, but, is there any news/prospect of the Bryston Drive Enclosure to go with the BDP actually happening? If yes any idea of timescales?

Cheers

I hope to get at it in the early fall. If you buy the 2.5 inch USB drives then you should be able to just remove the cases and the SATA drive will plug into the docking station.

Also hoping SSD USB drives come down in price as well giong forward.

Thank you James, good to know it is still on the roadmap  :D I have an itchy trigger finger for this one.

I intend to go with SSDs, the 2.5" sata IIs are coming down in price quite quickly now.

Cheers

Down to about £1 per Gig

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/240gb-ocz-technology-vertex-2e-25-sandforce-ssd-mlc-flash-read-285mb-s-write-275mb-s

So now much cheaper than the USB flash/thumb drive equivalent

Cheers

Hmm... Maybe it is time for me to start collecting computer parts again and build a new system...

Hi James

When do you anticipate releasing the Bryston Drive Enclosure and what would estimated price be ?

From what Bryston have been saying, it will follow their new processor and then their new headphone amp.
James says processor is due in October/November so I'd say I wouldn't expect the drive enclose this year, maybe next spring?

As for price, I bet it won't be less that £1,000.
It really needs to be << £250 to sell

For a bare case (no drives) £250 UK Sterling would be a top of the range price I'm guessing.
I presume that equates to $200 Canadian?

A BDP-1 style case with PSU and new front and rear panels.
A 3rd party HD controller with internal cables and HD mountings.

Yes my engineer tells me it would have it's own power supply so large drives would not be an issue as well as ic circuitry to coordinate and handle the different setup and USB drive configurations.

Maybe even the same PSU you're using in the BDP-1?

Having said that, it doesn't need to be fancy at all, a simple SMPSU would be fine for this application.
Chinese ones are as cheap as chips
