Bryston 2012 New Models
« on: 19 Jan 2012, 01:56 pm »
In 2011, the SP3 and the BHA-1 were taking up the bulk of the design and engineering time at Bryston - along with J.T.'s personal project on the JT-1 active loudspeaker.

Can anyone speculate on what's going to be the Bryston design / engineering focus for 2012?  What will be their next project?  What product / new model can we expect to see next?

I'm guessing an updated BDA - a BDA-2 on the digital product fronts, as the competitors are heavily investing in R&D there and there continues to be rapid changes in the technologies.

I don't see any new amplifiers but perhaps now that they have created a headphone amp, they will take a stab at a headphone?

Not sure what else - any guesses what might be likely?  Perhaps James can drop us some hints.

Haven't heard much recently about the hard drive enclosure....last update, I think, related to the difficulty in meeting a reasonable price point for that type of product (with Bryston standards)

Given the apparent success of the BCD-1 it just seems odd, at least to me, that they would abandon the CD format.  Even considering the drive availability and the rumored demise of the CD.

I think it's not a rumour about the bcd1. It's suppose to cease production by March or so according to James' last report.  :x

I still have my fingers crossed for the BDE-1 drive enclosure.

Pretty please

Ahh... The 7B-SST2 IS the 4B-SST2 in monoblock configuration...
So I am wondering what you are asking for???

You can also bridge the current 4B and get a matching one.

Ultimately, an upgrade to 7B would be the logical choice.  What's the wait?

What  I would like to see is a powerpack 300 (4bsst) presented in a nice regular chassis and faceplate and then given the squared treatment. That would be a 4b mono in a more compact version for those that don't want or require more power and expense. :thumb:

 Bridging is not the same.

4B SST2 = 300 watts / channel. 7B SST2 = 600 watts / channel.

I'm confused..   Wouldn't the 7B be the 14B in a monoblock configuration in terms of output, dynamics and headroom?

For a 4B (squared) monoblock - rather than go to a 7B, it would be cheaper to get a 4B and only hook up one channel (save you a whole $100 bucks or so).  But I'm sure the request is based on getting a 4B mono at about 2/3 the price of a stereo 4B - say $3330 vs. a 7B that costs $5100.

The 7B monoblock amp at $5100 is ~ 54% the cost of the 14B stereo amp at $9550.  Sounds like a 4B monoblock should be able to be produced and sold for somewhere between $2695 to $2995.  While many suggest products for Bryston to produce that may not be economically feasable, that is one that seems like it could be a decent seller.  Some people just want monoblocks but don't need 600W/channel.

I'm telling you that if Bryston offered a 4B monoblock at say $6,000 (a pair), I'd be all over them like a rat on a old piece of cheese!!!  I think a lot of people would but this also could influence the sales of the 7b negative; though it would be giving clients more "reasonable" choices.  Who knows - perhaps more clients would come over - those that just can't get together $10M+ for a pair of 7B, like myself but appreciate the advantages monoblocks offer.
