Title: Mat recommendation for Thorens
Post by: gguy on 17 Apr 2019, 09:59 pm
Hi, I am looking into getting a Herbie mat for my TD-160 Super.  Does anyone have experience with a Herbie mat on this table and found it a worthwhile upgrade?  I am currently using a Vinyl Nirvana cork/rubber mat.

I tried the Herbies Mat on both the TD 160 and TD124 and on both tables the Herbie's Matt sucked the life out of the sound.
After experimenting with DIY Mats also, I ended up back to the stock Thorens Mat and found as long as the Stock Mat is in good shape and still flexible, you best bet is to stick with the Stock Mat...Others may have better luck , but not me..I bought a Herbies Mat on two different occasions and found the same results both times.......hope that helps..........

Personally my experience with the Herbies TT mat was very good on my 145 mkII. Used with clamp and a Grado Gold cart with MCZ stylus in to a BHL (DIY) phono pre... to put things in context.
