well, after thinking it over, reading many articles and the responses here, i have decided not to buy one.  Instead, i am buying a jolida jd-100 modded tube cd player :)

Hi Starkiller,

An interesting solution.  :thumb:  You'll get the benefits of a tube buffered output from the Jolida without having to sweat any of the component matching issues of changing amps.  Although an integrated does eliminate the amp/preamp matching problem.

You mentioned you are using ACI Emerald XLs for speakers.  What are you currently using for amplification?  Also who did the mods on the Jolida?

Thanks,
JakeJ

amplification is a rotel rb-991...as far as mods go, well, thats the million dollar question :)  the seller does not know, he bought it from Perrotta Consulting in CT.  that was going to be my next question as how does one determine who has modded it if there arent any labels/stickers ect...?

Cool!  Always have had a soft spot for Rotel gear.  Great value for the dollar invested.  OK, gotta ask, Rotel pre?

That really is a million dollar question.  Sounds like the only way to tell is to open it up and take a photo or three, post them here, and ask others with Jolida CD player experience.  Hopefully someone will recognize the parts used and be able to give an answer.

And what is the Jolida replacing?

Here's to your upgrade.   May it be all you hope for.

I think it's worth it for the peace of mind to know it was done by a reputable modder.  Also in the (hopefully unlikely) event it needs service that there is someone to go to.

Just a thought.

PS - Off to work now, will respond further in the morning.

According to the seller, this player has upgraded caps, power supply, analog outputs, and feet. attached is one more pic showing that a plate has been attached to the rear, thereby making the use of a dac impossible, which is fine with me.

I have moddified countless Jolida CD players and know [most] of the other modders out there but this work does not look familiar.
Not to say it wasn't done by someone very reputable, just not someone I recognize.

 Looks like very nice work.

I have not. There is really no "need" to have it other than maybe easier access for soldering. It looks to be copper or brass. If brass, it would aid in vibration control.

Well, I had hoped for a more definitive answer but at least Bill thinks the work is good.

Starkiller, you'll have to give us your impression of the sound if you can find time in between spinning discs.  :)

Enjoy,
Jake
