driver suggestion for OB
« on: 5 Jan 2018, 02:21 am »
Looking for a driver suggestion for OB no equalization: I only need it to get down to 130-140hz and will have flexibility in crossing over somewhere between 1700 and 2500 to tweeter. Thanks.

I think "no EQ" will require a pretty wide baffle... With that said, how about an AE Dipole12?

Oh, for some reason I was thinking 1300 for the crossover. Maybe not then.

To reach 2K while maintaining constant directivity will require a narrow baffle.  To extend down to 130 Hz is not likely with one driver and no boost.  Might consider multiple 3 or 4 inch drivers with an increasing baffle width.

With this 4 inches FR he dont will need a tweeter and even a xover:
http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/approx-4-woofers/sb-acoustics-sb12pac25-4-4-aluminum-cone-woofer/#tab-1
Sensitivity is 87dB, Fs 52Hz and it reach 20kHz, only $28, 4 ohms proper to series connection.

response looks like it falls off pretty much after 2k

Yes, this will do a gentle treble presentation and the 12kHz peak will enhancement the treble harmonics. This driver should have 1 ohms impedance for multiple serial connection, w/these 4 ohms its possible use just 4 in series w/a 16 ohms OPT, also 87db dont help.

Not in OB, but yes in a BassReflex box since the Fs is 58Hz, in these conditions it can down til 50-60Hz easily, I would not use any sub for hi-fi music appliance.

Im looking for an OB driver.
On that 140-2500Hz wide Freq Range you want there is none for OB due technology restrictions currently.

OBS.: You would email Madisound asking if this driver suit your requirements as the QTS is 0.40:

I figure that if I cant find an OB driver to take me from 140-2k, I can make it a 3 driver set up to get the range I need.

To my personal taste I would stick w/one PAP 15Neo and one Visaton B200 or Alpair paper cone or Nirvana Alnico, no xover or at max an Goertz AlphaCore air core 4.7mH that I already have, its the usual proved recipe.

Note that w/an 8 inches you can goes down til 250/300Hz, w/an 10 inches you can go up til 1200Hz if I remember well, but I can be wrong.
