Well recorded Blues songs/albums
« on: 3 Dec 2022, 04:47 pm »
I would like to thank everyone that posts suggestions on this circle and have been introduced to so much music. I'm sorry I  havent contributed much but have reaped the rewards.

Anyway...I am looking for well recorded Blues songs and albums. Not just good songs or tracks that are good blues albums...but ones that exhibit good detail and imaging. I have searched and came up with threads for other genre's...but not blues.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Listened to this the other night. I love these tribute albums, it seems as thought the artists take pains to provide excellent sound along with fantastic renditions.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.

I use Buddy Guy's "Blues Singer" when testing equipment. Great songs and production.
Stevie Ray Vaughn "The Sky is Crying" is a staple.
Also like John Lee Hooker's "Best of Friends"

For acoustic blues, at the top of my heap is Muddy Waters - Folk Singer on Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab.  Buddy Guy - Sweet Tea is also really good.

On the electric blues side   Some of my favorites include:
Robert Lucas - Luke and the Locomotives. AudioQuest put out some really well recorded blues albums.
Eva Cassidy - Live at Blues Alley.
Albert King - Born Under A Bad Sign (MFSL).
Albert King with Stevie Ray Vaught - In Session
BB King - Live at the Regal (MFSL).
Terry Evans - Putting' It Down and Blues For Thought
Mighty Sam McClain also have some great titles.
Howlin' Wolf - The Real Folk Blues (MFSL)
John Lee Hooker - The Healer (MFSL)
Junior Kimbrough - All Night Long
Otis Rush - Ain't Enough Comin' In
Shelby Lynne - I am Shelby Lynne
Luther Allison - Soul Fix'n Man

Lots of great music out there

Clapton had an album out in the mid to late 90's called "Blues."  Disk #2 is all recorded live and is excellent.

I might add that most of Buddy's recent albums sound very good. He's in a league of his own, and all I can say is that "Come Back Muddy" from the above album is just other-worldly.  A must-hear for every blues fan.

Might be the best recorded blues album in my entire collection, and the music is awesome:

Trampled Under Foot, "Badlands"
