Hi Steve,

Have you taken a look at the Scott Nixon Tube Dac (simple, non-oversampling dac with a tube buffer)?  Do you think it is worth modding?  Not much circuitry so maybe the mods would be simple yet yield a large benefit?  You can see pics of the circuitry at:

I does look very simple, and seems to have some Black Gates in it.  I would imagine that the input digital circuits could be improved.  Add a pulse transformer and change some caps, improve the decoupling etc..., add silver wire to the RCA's.  This could be done fairly cheaply, say $300.  Once I got into one, I would probably find other things that need help.
