I am quite interested to know how much of a difference there is between the Bp-26
and the SP-2(from the music side). Is there a major difference or would it be very close.
Hopefully someone has tried them both.I'm sure a dedicated pre would be better, would like to know if she's a jaw dropping difference, thanks.

I did an A/B in the store with a system I'm familiar with about a year or so back.  I wouldn't call it a jaw dropping difference.  The BP-26 was a bit smoother and more laid back.  If the difference was a bit more and the BP-26 had HT bypass I likely would have sold my SP 1.7.  I've decided to wait for the SP3.  I don't see the HDMI 1.3 pass through becoming obsolete any time soon.  HDMI 1.3 can pass 1440p.  While there may be new Dolby techologies (e.g. height channels), it is not something I'm probably going to do in my room.

I'm trying to wait for the SP-3 also.I am using a Arcam av-8 for now.
I do like the stereo direct for music ect.
I wonder how the SP-3(analog section will compare to the BP-26).
Probably we all are chomping at the bit, thinking  the same thing.
Next week I can audition the 26 for a couple of days,if she puts my Av-8 a side,then I imagine I won't wait
for the SP-3),I'll just buy that later, perhaps.

Don,

the 26 beats the SP2 from what i can say. it's not a jaw dropping thing like Phil already said but IT IS indeed noticeable. i assume that the advantage of sound the 26 provides is because it's 'only' stereo. so the simplicity of the 26 is its strength.

go for the 26 if you want stereo only!

It is between (SP1.7/2) BP25 vs BP26.
