Title: Anyone compared the Goldring 1042 to the Clearaudio Charisma V2?
Post by: TomBo on 13 Feb 2024, 06:41 pm
Hi there,
I am running a 2017 clearaudio concept turntable that came fitted with the concept MM cartridge. Wasn't too impressed with that cartridge so moved to a Goldring 1042 (when they cost $400.00) and that was a huge improvement.  Really like this combo a lot. Has anyone heard the Clearaudio Charisma V2 MM cartridge on a Concept turntable? The Charisma is expensive, $2k, but wonder if it would be a monumental upgrade to the 1042? Anyone tried these cartridges? Thank you

I've not compared to Goldring, but I love the Maestro v1 on my Concept TT.

Hey glad you are also enjoying your Concept TT! I had to do a reality check and probably would not ever spend $2k on a cartridge. Vinyl is such a beautiful format.  So great to see a resurgence (although for some of us, it never went away  :)  Happy listening!

Personally, if you are going to spend that kind of money on a cartridge, you should move away from MM and go to MC as long as your phonostage can handle it. You will hear a whole new level of detail, once you move to MC, you are never going back.
