  • I reject your music, and substitute my own.
The other day when Edie Brickell was mentioned in a post, it got me a thinking. I never cared much for "What I Am" when it first came out. But after listening to it a few times recently, I realize that I don't hate it as much now.

What gives? Has my old age changed my perspective? Has it made me senile?

What are some songs you don't hate as much as you did when it first came out?

I dont listen it everyday, its a strong music, but now
I like these social and political criticism songs, this
band created a mix of hip hop, tribal drums, hard rock
and reagge in the early 1990s, great musicians,
great lyrics, a underated underground band.

I wasn't much of a Cars fan when their first album came out.  Good Times Roll and Just What I Needed were the songs.  My first thought was that they were too simplified - it sounded like something I could play with little musical experience.  My opinion changed within a few months though and I ended up getting, and enjoying, the first album.

There's a couple of artists that I disliked for a while because of their voices.  I eventually got over that and now can enjoy most of their music.  That was Joe Walsh and Neil Young.  I'm still working on Dylan.

I think there's been many, many songs that I disliked at the time, for one reason or another.  I hear them now and I mostly enjoy them.  Usually.  Midnight at the Oasis - Maria Muldar.  Rikki Don't Lose That Number - Steely Dan (Don't know why I didn't like it (<might have been the cryptic lyrics> but I love it now).  The Logical Song - Supertramp.  (I probably enjoy it now for the sonics moreso than the performance... but I do enjoy it).   Leo Sayer - You Make Me Feel Like Dancing (this got A LOT of radio play and it's still not a fav but I can tolerate it now, probably because of nostalgia).

The Beatles.  All their songs.  I didn't get what they hype was about.  At the time I was very much into really dark music so I think anything 'poppy' just didn't resonate with me.

Of course, eventually I grew up and now I love them.

There were songs on albums back in the day that I would skip over because I thought they were boring. But now I'm much more appreciative of skillful musicians and hear them in a different light,so to speak.

  • Too loud is just right
Anything from The Carpenters.  Nowadays I like their presentation.  And The Monkees, they had some great song writers for that show, although I've always liked Daydream Believer.

Always been ashamed to say I like this song:
Great arrangement and Mellotron solo.

Little Feet.
I guess I just wasn't ready for Lowell when they started.
Been listening to it for some time and love it now and with better equipment hear it a lot better now.
Beatles were just over played and it was just too much. After they went away and things calmed down
I gave them more listening and now enjoy them.
