At Then and Now records in Miami, had some nice 6-eye releases by Gerry Mulligan, Dave Brubeck and Chet Baker, but all $30+ and 'iffy' condition. Did find a clean 6-eye Mulligan.

The Gerry Mulligan Quartet -What is There to Say?
Stanley Turrentine - Jubilee Shouts

The latter a clean, Blue Note double album reissue.

This is the "Because Sound Matters" reissue. The paper is just right on the insert and album cover. Sounds pretty good, too. I also have a Nautilus half speed but I haven't had time to compare.

Paul,

Look forward to your Harvest comparisons. I have that new reissue too, but always wonder if it is worth tracking down other copies.

And yes, that Low "Secret Name" LP is great. I think most of Low's LPs are AAA. They even often have stickers on them informing the buyer that an all-analog chain is used.

Low also did on a great show when we and quietglow saw them. Other folks on the thread should look to see if Low will be playing nearby them on this tour.

I just googled them because until Paul's post I had never heard of the band. The early to mid 90's was a dry spell for me music wise as I was changing jobs and moving to Spokane. Based on the wikipedia read it sounds like I might like them.

Secret Names is where I'd recommend starting. And their new LP is also excellent. Quietglow may pop in to recommend some others. IIRC, I think his faves differ slightly from mine.

Some days your are just in the right place at the right time.  The local record store had just bought a collection of jazz and hadn't even unboxed it.  I got first picks..... let's see, all original and early pressings:
Leading of with a vg+ Kind of Blue on Columbia 6 eye
then Jimmy Smith Live at the Chicken Shack early Blue note
next another copy of Nina Simone and Friends (NM)
then Sonny Rollins Sonny's Time on Jazzland
Ellington at Newport '56
Ahmad Jamal Trio "Count 'em 88"
Sonny Stitt plays Jimmy Giuffre Arrangements (NM until I dropped it while cleaning, now VG+ )
Nina Simone atht the village Gate
Nina simone High Priestess of Soul
Sonny Rollins Contemporary Alternate Takes
sonny Rollins What's New (RCA 2s stamper)
Buddy Rich The Wailing
Nina Simone Let it all Out
Jimmy Smith Midnight Special
Nina Simone Forbidden Fruit
Roy and Diz No. 2
... and a dozen of RCA shaded dog classical and Mercury Living Presence
This represents about one to two years worth of collecting for me in a single buy...$180
Now listening to my nice copy of Kind of Blue  :D
I overlooked a couple that were in with the classical stuff.... so here's the addendum.

Blue Note Jimmy Smith  "Crazy Baby original mono NM
Mercury  The Max Roach 4 plays Charlie Parker- first stamper FR-1 NM
Columbia 6 eye   Newport 1958 Dave Brubeck. VG++
Julie London's Golden Greats

I am a big Buzzcocks fan and love this Shelley solo song. I had never heard the 12" extended disco mix. It's a lot of fun!

Now I have the German TOOFA to add to the British TOOFA. I love those Cube TOOFA's, this is the only one I have......C'mon Punkin, show us your TOOFAS!

Oh yeah, The Move are THE BEST. If you don't own any, go right ahead and buy Shazam immediately.

Paul,

With the exception of The Move, I have never heard of any of the other artists except Low and that is only because someone posted a Low album before you, I think. Wouldn't know a Low song if I heard it.

Disco? You can't be serious, please tell you aren't serious.

RACHMANINOFF

Grammy® Nominated 2003
Category 90– Best Engineered Album - Classical
Keith O. Johnson, engineer

Selected by SoundStage!.com as one of the "Best Recordings of 2001"
Chosen by THREE reviewers of The Absolute Sound magazine as one of the best releases of 2001.

Sergei Rachmaninoff was one of the most beloved composers of the twentieth century. His music is redolent of his Russian homeland, and it sings long, lush melodies that define the term "romantic." Everyone who knows and loves his piano concertos will enjoy these lyrical and dynamic works for orchestra. The "Symphonic Dances" in recent years have become one of Rachmaninoff’s most-performed scores. The five "Ètudes-Tableaux" were orchestrated by Ottorino Respighi from the brilliant originals for piano. "Vocalise" is one of the great classical melodies, and is hummable by everyone. Initial response from renowned reviewers is amazingly positive. Two have said this is the finest orchestral recording Reference Recordings has ever made!
