Other than the banana peel cover album with Nico, I just couldn't get into their recordings.

Laura

I think you'd like Loaded, Laura, it's really accessible.

The second record, I think, is White Light/White Heat! It's gonna be hard for me to get into that one.

My Codeine box came today...

Paul

Look forward to your impressions of the Codeine. I am clearly smitten with them of late.

As for what I have gotten lately, Joanna Newsom's "Have One on Me" is fabulous. Easily her best and most approachable IMHO.

Yes, WL/WH is the second, and definitely not for everyone.

It took me a long time to love that record, but I do.  The self titled is the third which I actually think is the most accessible VU record next to Loaded.  Loaded was the fourth released album, which I was very disappointed that they didn't find a way to get the rights to for inclusion in this box.  1969 in this set, is compiled from demos they did for a fourth for MGM, some great songs on that!

Spent a large part of my late teens and early 20's loving these records.  I was a bit afraid these would sound a little too narrow in mono as so many of these songs are about the huge ambient space built up around them.  The mono pressings were a rarity in original pressings as far as I know......never heard these that way.......

For all of you who missed the popmarket Chilton, you're gonna feel bad when you see this:

Big Star Third in a deluxe box
Rarities between Box Tops and Big Star
CD of the Rarities
Double sided single with a full and demo version of one of the songs.

I'm gonna have a history lesson later this month!

The last time I listened to Rosco:

Cool packaging. Only 40 percent of the way through it, though!

Yes, I regret passing on that Chilton.

Paul, I was certainly thinking of you and Laura when I posted that Sundazed Holiday sale link.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts on the Codeine.

Just spun Chelsea Girl. If you haven't heard that one yet, you are in for a treat.

Yes, I regret passing on that Chilton.

I'm still not sure about this one. I heard one of his albums at 4000 holes and didn't like it enough to buy it. I have the original Box Tops album and that will probably be the extent of my Alex Chilton collection.

Thanks, there are some great 1/2 price deals on some classics from bygone eras.

Back from 2 days in Albany and found a few record stores, picked up the following vinyl;

Kenton - 'New Concepts of Artistry in Rhythm' (a better work of his)
Getz/Gilberto - 'Getz/Gilberto' (have it on SACD and wanted vinyl as well)
Dexter Gordon - 'Doin' Alright'
Dave Brubeck Quartet - 'The Great Concerts'.

More new stuff.

Haven't listened to it yet. Like the old stuff, read that this is good. I didn't even know it was out. Like, don't get me started how hard it is for old favorites to promote their new stuff!

I am on a Jellyfish kick, thanks to Laura. So here goes: Jellyfish had a member Jason Falkner who worked with Eric Matthews on these solo albums. Good stuff.

Incredible package, well-done remaster of Thick As A Brick. Haven't listened to TAAB2 yet but I did enjoy it at the recent Ian Anderson concert. Amazing hardcover book comes with it, too.

Don't know them, missed them during my Barney The Dinosaur Sing Along With The Kids phase. A very dark period indeed.

Anyway, interesting album. Somehow I think Rosco wanted me to get this???
