John Mayall • Looking Back

Classic Mayall, nice run & shopping haul P-man.  :thumb:

Two years ago I bought Lou Hinkley's (Daedalus Audio) Ambrose One all tube preamp that matches my Ambrose 30 tube monoblocks. I opened the boxes and then let it sit for two years because I was too lazy to go through the effort of changing out my ModWright L.S. 36.5 dual box pre amp for the Ambrose One. My equipment sits next to aside wall with limited room behind the equipment so the swap required some effort.  On Labor day, I finally decided to change out the preamps. I wish I would have done it 2 years ago. I love my system and the 36.5 DM is a great preamp, but the Ambrose One hit it out of the park. The music is more alive, more detail, expanded soundstage.  :thumb: :thumb: Here's a link if you want to read about it, https://www.modwright.com/products/ambrose-one-preamp.php.

As a result, I'm listening to some old favorites that I know well.

Incredible sound quality.

Good to hear the swap was worth the effort Laura, and that you were well pleased. Though given the work Dan & company do probably not a big surprise. Recently swapped in my LS100 pre, it's been a while since it was in the rotation. While I don't have much more room than you I was able to set things up so I can rotate the rack for, relatively speaking, easy access to the back for moving cables. Nice run of Jimmy B too.  8)

Hi JD,
I hope you are well. Lou told me I would hear the difference and he was right. I first heard the Ambrose system at RMAF and was blown away by the sound through Daedalus speakers. I bought the demos of the Ambrose 30 monoblocks, but couldn't afford to get the pre amp at that time. When Lou started showing with LTA he called me and offered me the Ambrose One for a little less than 1/2 price. It is a great pre amp and wasn't as hard to swap out as I had allowed myself to assume.

Take care and happy listening.

I don’t really own many 45’s but I’m pleased to have this one. Can’t remember where it came from or who gave it to me.
