I miss Terry Kath. Hendrix said Kath was the best guitar player he had ever heard.

What is that album and where in the Chicago discography does it fall??  Obviously it's early if it has Kath on it but I've never seen it.

I think it's Chicago VI

Oh... I thought Kath was only on CTA and Chicago (1 and 2), i.e., I only 'heard' his playing on the 3 earliest.

It is Chicago VI, the first Chicago album (1973) of 5 recorded at James William Guercio's Caribou Ranch Studios in Nederland CO.

The studio was damaged by a fire in the 1980s. It is being inducted in the Colorado Music Hall of Fame on August 13 at a concert at Fiddler's Green Amphitheater in Greenwood Village CO. Also being honored are Joe Walsh and Barnstorm and Dan Fogelberg. Performing are Garth Brooks, Amy Grant & Vince Gill, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Richie Furay, Randy Owen of Alabama, Todd Park Mohr (Big Head Todd and the Monsters), Michael Martin Murphey and more, plus a reunion performance from Joe Walsh & Barnstorm. I have tickets and looking forward to it.

Terry played on all of the Chicago albums through Chicago XI in 1977.

Double Yikes!!

Of the 3 - 11, are there any that compare with CTA and 1? Through the haze I seem to remember that wasn't the case. I'm particularly interested in standout records for Kath.

No, none, nada. Cetera, Lamm and Pankow dominated the song writing after Chicago III and the band went in a more pop sounding direction. I kept buying them hoping to hear more Kath. The albums from V through XI had a good song here and there, mostly top 40 hits like Saturday in the Park, You and me and Feeling Stronger Everyday.

To this day, IMO, CTA (Chicago 1) and Chicago II are light years better than anything that followed.
