I've heard the same thing from friends who bought it and I read Fremer's review. I played it to decide if I like it enough to pay $100 for the reissue. I don't!

Hi Laura
Jerome bought it and felt it really wasn't worth $100

Hi Bill,

I trust Jerome's ears. If I'm going to pay $100 for a record, it has to first be on my desert island top ten and after listening to it again for the first time in years, Abraxas is nowhere close to the top 100, let alone top 10.

Hi Laura,
Thank you for your posts. You and Toni must be the frontrunners here for buying new pressings. For those of us with older vinyl but contemplating new replacements, it would be interesting and helpful to see your desert island list of new pressings. Others could add their lists as well. Pity about poor Abraxas, on of my favorites.  (Perhaps this is an AC thread seperate from P-man's ?)
Cheers,
Lester

Lester,

right off the top of my head, in no particular order, the following reissues are "must haves" if you really like the original album:

Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow MoFi 45 RPM
Bob Dylan - any of the MoFi 45 RPM reissues, especially Blonde on Blonde
Chicago - Rhino reissues of Chicago Transit Authority (Chicago I) and Chicago II
The Doors - QRP's 45 RPM Reissues
The Grateful Dead - MoFi 45 RPM reissues of American Beauty and Workingman's Dead
Jethro Tull - the Steve Wilson remix of Aqualung

I know there are others, but those come to mind first.

Laura

QRP reissue on 200g vinyl

Is this any different than the first one? (Mastering or such?) I love the album.

I have not compared it, but will.

To Laura's List, I would add the Mono Beatles (the whole set for completists, your favorite albums for everyone else)  and the Beach Boy Mono Releases from Analogue Productions (same comment as the Beatles, but Pet Sounds as a minimum).  I don't have the new Rolling Stones mono box set yet, but I expect that it should be included here (again all or parts depending on your mileage) and recently Mofi's Love Forever Changes, which is an astonishing album.

I agree with what Phil added. Forever Changes is really well done. I personally will pass on the Rolling Stones since I only liked a few of their albums in the first place, but never enough to buy a box set.

180g vinyl.  Great brit pop band that combines elements of glam and The Smiths.

180g vinyl.  While Pump is my favorite Aerosmith album this is a close second.
