I think GG is the next hole in my collection I have to fill.

I remember guys spinning Octopus when I was at Syracuse in the '70s.

I sent you a PM. I can help you get started on Gentle Giant. I bought a couple of their albums and didn't like them.

Responded, and thanks.

I have 2 copies of Fleetwood Mac ‎– Mystery To Me and The Byrds Greatest Hits from last page, let me know if you'd like either in return.

Men At Work ~ Business As Usual

I see Mobile Fidelity is putting out a reprint of this one.  I see yours is the Half Speed Mastered - Extended Range...  I wonder if the MOFI copy will be from the same source as yours.  Great Album

columbia tried to react to what Mobile Fidelity was doing (back in the mid 70's) and they did it very badly.  In fact, columbia would not license their albums to Mofi.  I have several of these columbia Half Speed Masters and they are all uniformly terrible, more bright than even the Mofi's of the time, who were often accused of being overly bright due to the half speed mastering.  I have Columbia Santana Abraxas and an S&G Bridge Over Troubled Waters that are virtually unlistenable.  The Columbia Abraxas compared to the mofi abraxas is a real revelation about how different copies and renditions of the same record, and presumably the same source material, can sound.

Even if Mofi used the same source material, and I assume they would, i am pretty sure they would do a cleaner, less bright sound and should sound great.

I agree Men at Work are a great band.

Steely Dan   ‎– Can't Buy A Thrill

I don't know if Bill is a big Steely Dan fan, but putting it in his thread anyway.

Nope, the yellow ABC  'bullseye' label, not the black and silver label.

In fact, I have 2 of them.

Not sure why I thought you didn't like them, my bad.

Maybe because they're not late 60's/early 70's Brits playing blues-rock.

The black label is the original and I always buy them when I come across them. I'll see if I have another black label at the house. I'll try and get your stuff in the mail tomorrow.

Gentle Giant  ~  Octopus

Columbia, 1973

Just received this from Vinyl Lady, with 2 other GG titles. First impression, outtakes from "In The Court of the Crimson King"

And coming from VL, the vinyl is spotless. Thanks Laura!
