"MORGEN - MORGEN" (PSYCHEDELIC GARAGE PUNK US 1969)"Steve Morgen" (vocals, lead guitar), "Barry Stock" (rhythm guitar), "Rennie Genossa" (bass guitar), "Bob Maiman" (drums) originally hailed from Long Island, New York. Morgen was signed by "ABC Records"'s short-lived "Probe Records" subsidiary, for their 1969 debut Morgen (CPLP 4507 S).Morgen's album had the same Punk vein like "The Koala - The Koala (GARAGE PSYCHEDELIC PUNK US 1969)" and "The Lollipop Shoppe - Just Colour (GARAGE PSYCHEDELIC PUNK US 1968)".And, the songwriting and FUZZ guitar are absolutely TOP of the heap.Even before dropping needle on groove, the stark black-and-white sleeve features a monochrome reproduction of "Edvard Munch"'s "The Scream" in contrast to the multicolored hues so prevalent then, and a single word, "Morgen" which is at once the artist's name, the album's title, and the German word for 'tomorrow' makes an immediate statement.
Haymarket Square was a Chicago-based psychedelic rock band in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Their album, Magic Lantern, released in 1968, was a major hit, and is well considered by fans of psychedelic rock music even today. The music of the album was used to accompany the Baron and Bailey Light Circus at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
Rhino remastered 2009 (the one to have, much better than the original pressing). My favorite of all their albums.
