Title: Simple but good Mac music player in 2020?
Post by: JohnR on 10 Nov 2020, 12:46 pm
I haven't been keeping up. Would anyone have a recommendation for something that meets these criteria:

* Able to drag and drop files from the Finder into the playlist
* Able to select audio output device independently from system device
* Sounds good
* Decent UI that works properly on a computer / not an iPad app
* Has to work on Catalina (!)
* Not expensive (< $50)
* Not harass you every year for an upgrade fee

I couldn't get the hang of VLA - on their forum someone mentioned IINA https://iina.io and the interface is much better, for me...

I use VOX on my MBP.  It has support for almost all formats and can process dsd files too.

Drag and drop - check
Audio output selection - check
Sounds as good as your dac and speakers
Very sleek modern UI
I am running big sur but I have been using all the way back since mountain lion
App is free for basic use and the premium subscription is $4.99 monthly for the bells and whistles.  I just use the basic version

Hi there,

I use foobar that is a great free app on mi iMac...

More 'audiophile' oriented is also Audirvana (around 70$ for the licence).
