NX Studio with 300Bs?
« on: 30 Jan 2024, 05:22 am »
Anyone running a 300B amp with their NX-Studios?  Are they not sensitive enough for 300Bs? Any real word experience that can be shared?

I run the GR NX Studios with an 845 SET FWIW.... no problem whatsoever. Of course it's 22 watts per channel as opposed to 8 or 9, but I believe Danny once demoed them at his place with a 300B amp. Hopefully someone will chime in and verify. I think you could pull it off in a small to med. sized room at sensible volume levels.

We have a 300B amp that we use with them from time to time. For a small room, or for an application where limited overall SPL is okay, then it is certainly a beautiful sounding combination.

Thanks Danny, I do have a small 11x10 treated room.
I’ve been able to demo a 3watt Decware Zen Taboo Mk4 in my room and it was just a little lacking on vol for high dynamic range orchestral pieces and fine for most traditional recording levels which is easily the majority of what I listen to.

I believe you're going to get a lot more volume and punch out of a DHT like a 300B. A well designed 300B SET will sound closer in delivery to a 25 watt P-P amp. This in my experience as my 22 watt 845 SET amp seems to match my 60 watt P-P amp in volume/sense of ease. This of course by ear, not actual measurement.
