What are some of your favorites? I'm partial to ELP - Father Christmas, The Pogues - Fairytale Of New York, and The Beach Boys - Little Saint Nick.

Sick to death of them.
Not Rock n' Roll but far from traditional I do LOVE this CD, "Mas! A Caribbean Christmas Party". Fabulous! :thumb:

If you can find this anywhere, it's a great modern Christmas album. We wore out at least 2 in cassette form, and are on our 2nd CD. The Smashing Pumpkins - Christmastime, is fantastic.

Sick to death of them.

i started making my own xmas cd's because i was sick to death of listening to awful xmas songs every year. now i have something good to listen to, and i also use them as stocking stuffers for my friends. much to my amazement, i am on year number 4 so there's more good stuff out there than you think. some of them were already listed but for someone that has the ramones as an avatar there are good xmas songs by the dickies, the descendents, redd kross, and a bunch more. you just have to dig a little.

so if i were to just pick the highlights for a greatest hits xmas cd, it would prob. look like:

bootsy collins - merry christmas baby
the grip weeds - christmas, bring us
kay martin and her bodyguards - i want a casting couch for christmas
keith richards - run run rudolph
the levees - how do you spell channukkahh
pogues - fairytale of new york
louis prima - shake hands with santa claus
jean beauvoir - merry christmas to all of the world
louis armstrong - zat you santa claus?
darlene love - christmas
alabama blind boys with tom waits - go tell it on the mountain
james brown - santa claus go straight to the ghetto
mighty mighty bosstones - this time of year
steve earle - christmas in washington
X - jingle bells
the monkees - riu chiu
the chieftains with elvis costello - st stephens day murders

there's more, but that should get someone a good start on some GOOD xmas music (IMO, and if you don't agree, you're wrong). something for everyone.

Aside from Tom Waits' version of Silent Night, it comes down to a pair of Jethro Tull songs. When I am feeling... polite, Weathercock. Less so, A Christmas Song (+1 to thunderbrick).

Where's the love for David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel, & Derek Smalls and their holiday classic, Christmas with the Devil.

Tap into Christmas!

If you're into indie pop music,  "It's A Cool Christmas" is a fun record.

Granddaddy, Belle and Sebastien, Flaming Lips, etc.

Rare, and hard to find.
