CD Transport Repair
« on: 20 Apr 2021, 01:28 am »
Does anyone know of a competent repair shop for CD transports?

I am currently having one repaired. I went through the manufacturer, who ultimately had me send it to a repair shop they designated. It has fallen into a black hole. Not having received an estimate after almost 2 months, I am getting close to insisting that they box it up and ship it back to me.

I do not want to diagnose/repair this transport myself.

Any ideas for a competent repair shop would be appreciated.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

I send my Rega to this shop.  It will have to travel.  Send Nick an email.  My repair was reasonable but it depends on the unit.

Assuming they work on your brand transport, these guys do great work and are a little closer to the DC area:

It might cost more to repair your transport than it's worth. I don't know which one you have. I have a Cambridge transport.
I don't listen to it anymore. My Marantz SACD SA8004 sounds better than the Cambridge/DAC combination.

GeneS - Thank you for the information.

If I could ever get an estimate, I could make the cost effectiveness determination regarding repair.

The transport is a Pro-ject CD Box RS.  I have both the upgraded power supply (Power Box Uni 1-Way) and DC cable for it as well.

In my small experience the usual problem causing the laser to mistrack is not the laser it is usually a capacitor failing.
Since no one else seems to believe that is even possible. I put it up to having been abducted by Aliens as a child.
