Jim,
I’d like to ask a couple questions specific to the Veracity ST but probably apply to many of the floor standers.
1. My listening position is 11 feet back from the speakers. Pretty much I listen around 80db… …maybe 85 db peaks (so probably 96db measured at one meter) which I’m sure is well within the safe limits of the STs…my question is, measured at 1 meter, what is the safe maximum output…beyond which one of the drivers could be damaged? This is especially interesting considering how low the STs go and yet how small the midwoofers are and how much that are moving on songs with deep bass.
2. This is a sound quality question…are the STs “straining” to play low and therefore would sound better if high passed and supplemented with a sub below the high pass….vs just playing them full range and still using a sub…but maybe a little less output, to supplement the bottom…which option would sound better.

1) I would say about 105 db would be tops.
2) It all depends on how well the sub was integrated with the mains. Having a higher crossover would reduce distortion somewhat and provide more power handling. If the sub would be well integrated (phase, gain, crossover frequency), that would be superior. If not, use without a sub would be superior.

I'm pretty much thinking that at 85db listening/95db at the 1 meter distance...I'm not really driving them so hard that there is much distortion for normal music listening. I'm more concerned that introducing some kind of a high pass device..something like the https://www.marchandelec.com/xm46-pllxo.html Marchand passive crossover to route 45hz and above to the ST's has its own phase, timing and tone problem because I doubt that a high pass can really be introduced without causing its own set of problems....then comes the issue of blending in a sub which further compounds everything....
All of which leads me to believe that I'm better off with the STs full range and then a sub for 45hz and below...approximately.
Have you ever had anyone blow out the 6" Seas W16s because they played them too loud?
Is the RAAL even more sensitive than the Seas.
No matter, all of the above, the sound is just amazing and I plan to post a review in the "what speakers did you replace" section.

We have no record of anyone blowing a W16 woofer to date.
Yes, the RAAL is more sensitive than the W16's. This is necessary because you can't pad down woofers. So the tweeter (or tweeter/midrange) has to be at least as sensitive or more. More is better since you have some room to work with.
