Title: Please Post Your High-End Setup Here
Post by: rustydoglim on 5 Feb 2006, 12:58 am
We get asked about different types of equipment that work well with Nuforce all the time. So, please post your setup here but refrain from turning this topic into a discussion thread. We just want to have a centralized place to list everything. By posting here you also give us permission to post it on our website.

People who are interested in discussing what components work well with NuForce should take it to their respective topics (or just PM the poster).

Thanks!

Turntable:  Ariston RD 110, Sumiko MMT tonearm, Denon 303(or 304) cartridge,  Signal Cable Silver Resolution interconnects(54 inches) from RCA junction box on turntable to Fidelity Research transformer(silver windings?).  Preamp:  RGR(Robert Grodinsky Research)3.  Power amps:  Nuforce 8.02b with Cardas adaptors.  Speaker cables:  Signal Cable Silver Resolution(8 feet-it's the ones with 3 parts silver and 2 parts copper).  Interconnect between preamp and power amp:  Oritek X-2 interconnects(which I  can't recommend highly enough).  Speakers:  DCM Time-Windows(the original-with covering removed).  Turntable sits on Mapleshade's 2-inch Maple with their rubber-cork-rubber footers. Mapleshade and Bright-Star are other isolation devices.

Post by: mmakshak on 11 Mar 2006, 06:23 pm
My system now has a Linn, Ekos, nude Archiv, Lingo, Mana table.  It also has an APL Hi-Fi Denon 3910.  Oritek X-2's are between the APL cd player and preamp(per Ori's recommendation).  My 8.02's need updating, though.  Signal Cable Silver Resoluions are between preamp and amp.  Financially, I am limited in what I can do for at least a year.  This lp is a must-get.

Source 1: Sony DVP 9000es DVD & SACD player.
Source 2: Apple iTunes via Airport express fed to preamp via Belden mini to RCA cable.

Preamplifier: Philly Audio 7B. Great depth and warm sounding yet clear as a bell. Likes expensve NOS WE 396A tubes best and requires 4 of them. Oh well!

Amps: Nuforce Reference 8.02's. Excellent control and detail without a hint of glare or hash. Makes even my old 80's cd's fun to listen to. And they're quiet!

Speakers: custom 2-way floorstanders with Scan Speak 9300 tweeters and Vifa M18 mid-woofs. Overbuilt crossovers include Harmony caps and hand wound inductors. They offer detail and a lush, spacious sound.

Interconnects and speaker cables: Cardas. They just sound right.

Power cables: Volox or something. I heard of them here. Big, heavy and have chokes on 'em. Less than $15 for a pair. Can't go wrong with these hum-busting cords.

Oh yeah, I had the outlets individually wired back to the circuit breaker and the outlets replaced for updated performance.  A $250 "tweak" that is hands down the way to go.

Thanks for readin'.
-Mike
Title: My setup
Post by: mmakshak on 16 Apr 2006, 06:45 pm
I am hoping to catch the guy that mentioned the Nuforce's with APl Hi-Fi's modified Denon 3910.  He had tubes,  rather than my transistor(mosfets-I believe), as an output for the Denon 3910(APl Hi-Fi modified, as was his).  I told him that there wasn't a problem with the Nuforce's with the transistor, rather than tube, output on the Denon with Nuforce's.  I just want to say that that might be incorrect, but that the problem is not with the Nuforce's.  The problem is with digital.  I have a circa (1992) Linn with Lingo.  The problem is not with the Nuforce's.  How do you answer that?  Let me explain(as you deserve that).  Why do you listen to music(Don't you think for an instance, that what I'm saying is not being observed by "Abslolute Sound" and "Stereophile".)?  Isn't part of it due to the relaxation that music provides?

Title: How to bi-amp Piega floorstanders with Nuforce ref 9 V2s
Post by: praeto9096 on 9 Mar 2009, 04:50 pm
Hi - How can I bi-amp my Piega TC50s with 4 x ref 9 V2s? I am currently running a Mark Levinson 390S, using the pre-amp volume control fully balanced XLRs to two ref 9 V2s. I have been told that Piegas are "suitable" for the Nuforce amps (I guess the speed), and that they can be significantly improved if bi-amped with a second pair of monos. Will I need to buy a crossover, and which is sonically better to use with the Nuforce/ Piega set-up...XLR balanced or unbalanced connection from the pre-amp? Also which speaker cables would you recommend for the Nuforce to Piega TC50 stage...Piega obviously recommend their own cable, but Ive been told thay are not so fast. Thanks.

Hello again from a big NuForce fan!

After half a year here is a little upgrade of my system:

- now 3 phase electricity (one phase exclusively for hifi)
- upgraded monoblocks from V2 to V3
- added Mark & Daniel Omni Harmonizers
- modificated Squeezebox (Paul Hynes regulator for powering digital section, pulse transformer on digital out, BNC output,...)
- modificated DacMagic (new regulators, opamps, diodes, capacitors, bypassed output capacitors, BNC input,...), more info about modification in this (http://www.audio-kontakt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1041&start=0) topic.

... and yes... V3 generation is impressive!

A few pictures of my setup below.

Source: HTPC Win7/Audiophilleo2 + PurePower/JPLAY 5.1 via JRiver MC19/NuForce DAC-9
Poweramp: Belles SA-30
Speakers: Auto-tech THE MUMMY MkII
Interconnects: NuForce IC700
Speaker cables: 1.5mm Mundorf Silver/gold
Power cables: DIY Gauge 16 solid-core copper cables(twisted; earth wire twisted in opposite direction)

(a little info on the speakers)
The Polish Auto-tech speakers are brand new as they entered my setup 3 weeks ago. The cabinets, consisting of two halfs screwed and glued together, are made of fiberglass and are heavily damped. The finish is top notch; they're built like tanks and the gelcoat is beautifully handpolished. The 12" bass driver is from Beyma(it covers up to 1.5kHz, which effectively makes it a midrange driver as well..), and the compression driver behind the "oblate spheroids" waveguide is from BMS. Crossover components are from Jantzen. Sensitivity is ~94dB.

Nice and simple. Now just replace htpc with mac mini, and you have a briliant system.

Thanks.

A Mac Mini would certainly be an aesthetically pleasing addition, though would render my JRiver MC17 player obsolete being that it's not Mac compatible; I'm using MC17 for both music and film(mainly Blu-ray) playback, indeed very successfully so, why I'd not be without it.

However, from a visual standpoint a (black) Mac Mini is the perfect complementation (as presented through your very fine setup above, in silver) to my nuForce poweramp and DAC, and with a suitable music-only software player -- like, say, Stephen F. Booth's Decibel -- would likely be very satisfying, audibly speaking, as well.

So my setup with a NuForce product is a bit unorthodox ... it's a computer desk setup with the following:
NuForce Icon-2 desktop amp / headphone amp
Paradigm Atom v.5 speakers
Infinity PS28 subwoofer
Sennheiser HD 600 headphones
Macintosh computer (connected to a NAS media storage device) via iTunes

This is a great near-field setup, and, yes, the subwoofer does make a marked difference. The Paradigms would probably have more low and low-mid with a more powerful amp, but the NuForce does a very admirable job with the mid, mid-high, and treble ends of the spectrum. A reasonably good subwoofer in this system makes up the difference.

And although the HD600s are a classic set of cans, their impedence is pretty high for the headphone amp portion of the NuForce.

But this system is still great for close listening while working.

After eliminating problematic bass, improving room response and getting desirable RT60 a listening room looks like this (diy variant):

Original A6s CD-player/Sonos connect
Audiolab M-DAC
NuForce Ref9 V2 SE (copper) into...
Mark & Daniel Aragorn+ (including bass extender stands and omni-harmonizer tweeter)  :green:

Vanilla cables throughout, nothing fancy. More 'high-end' the more downstream you get. NuForce and Mark & Daniel are a great match IMHO, few other amps can control those low-efficiency, low-impedance beasts.
