Bryston versa Mccormack?
« on: 25 Nov 2007, 03:18 pm »

Has anyone compared Mccormack DNA-225 and DNA-500 to either of 4B/7B/14B SST?
I wanted to hear DNA-500 due to some glowing reviews, could find only DNA-225.
Without going into details, it will suffice to say that in my system (so take it with reservations) DNA-225 was too dark for my taste (to the point of having incorrect tonality of acoustic instruments), with significant loss of details and control of LF when compared to 7B SST, bass was bloated and undefined.
Linar class A amp of 2X50W was much closer to 7B SST in tonality and the control of LF than DNA-225.
Speakers were PMC IB2, pre-amp BP26.
Considering DNA-225 had no balanced inputs, comparison was made using unbalanced as well, same deal.
I would be interested to hear impressions of those who had experience with mentioned amps.
