selling my Ncore 400: what is a fair price?

Dual mono (2 X 400 amp module; 2 X SMPS600)
Furutech gold plated XLR and IEC
Cardas gold plated CCGES binding posts
Pulse gen ZX (can be switched on or off)  - not in signal path
black chassis
expert assembly

At today's exchange rate all parts + chassis + import tax = approximately $2000.   What price should I be asking for?  Thanks.

Reason:  purchased a NAD MS22 based upon same amp module.  In my system, it sounds better.

The way stuff is selling on here these days, you won't get more than $1200 for it.

Thanks (less than I thought).  That would be quite a bargain given that two modules + two SMPS cost about $1,100 from Hypex + about $75 for import tax.

I know.  I have 1 pair of monoblocks and one dual monoblock (like yours) each with Furutech IEC and XLRs, Cardas clamps and silver chassis (not quite as nice as yours), built extremely well, but I was offered less than $2,000 for all 4 of them and less than $1,100 for the pair of monoblocks or the dual monoblock.  They are gathering dust in the closet until fall.  I am selling too much as it is right now anyway...

I would just hang onto it.

If you built it yourself there's a sentimental value that nobody will compensate you for, and it's a really good amplifier you might find yourself using again someday.

This type of "depreciation" is the nature of the beast I'm afraid.

Dave.

DIY stuff usually also suffers greater depreciation due to concerns about build and support.

It is a far harder, and a much softer used market than I have ever seen right now...It's lucky to get anything name brand, or not like this sold for 50% value even 30% of retail is average on a lot of audio these days unfortunately.

If you are that desperate to move it honestly most of this stuff won't move unless you go over to Audiogon, and pay the new ridiculous fee's, or Ebay which does pretty well auctioning stuff like this, but get ready to pay about 150.00 bucks in fee's from ebay, and paypal if it sells for $1200.00 or more at auction, well over 10% to 13% comes out in fee's on total... A few years ago it would cost you about 40 bucks or so to sell something like this, but 3 or 4 times that now....

Not to mention if you insure it, and ship thru Fed Ex, or UPS get ready for the shocker there. Again old shipping maybe 2012 and back you were looking around 25 to 35 bucks fully insured. Now ... Ha, you can pay 50 to 60 bucks to send it across the street with 1200.00 in insurance at this point!

Blue Book is quite useless on most gear as well accept maybe Mcintosh, and few huge legacy brands. For example just like the "Used LP guide" it will tell you that a mint copy of Van Halen's first album is worth $25 to $35 bucks... Good luck getting $12 for it!

I just sent my AVA preamp (16 lbs) to Frank for a phono upgrade,  and UPS charged me $136.00!!! To send it one way fully insured!  I think I'll try Fedex next time.
 :duh:
