Amp Upgrade from A370??
« on: 4 Nov 2019, 08:22 pm »
I built the 2x12 H Frame and have been using the Servo Controlled A370PEQ. Is there an amp I can upgrade to that has the servo and HiLevel inputs? Would there be a advantage sonically? Thanks for the advice.

I’m a little uncertain of what you are looking for. The A370PEQ has both low and hi level inputs. It also has a hi pass output but I wouldn't use that. All the A370 amps have hi level inputs. The A370PEQ3 has hi level and two line level inputs, one for a full range signal and one for an LFE channel. The A370XLR  amps have hi level as well as both balanced and single ended line level inputs.

What is it you’re looking for?

I'm not aware of an amp upgrade for the A370 with servo control. However, you can upgrade some of the internal parts of the A370 for a slightly improved sound.

I only ask in regards to performance improvement. I want to maintain the same features as my A370. I know people using the 800 but that only has XLR in.

There is not a different amp above this model that can be used, but some upgrades can be implemented to this amp in the way of power supply caps, etc.

Thats weird, Sound Insight is using the 800 and they say if has the same servo and most features of the A370. They drive 6 12 inch drivers per side.

Will there be a improvement in SQ? Maybe something I would consider

That is basically the same amp (performance wise) but with two channels so that more drivers can be handled.

I haven't pursued it, but some of our customers have and report some improvements.

Yeah,  the 800 contains  2 x  400w  mono amps , controls apply to both mon's simutaneously.
You can  run a max of  3  SW12 a6FR's  per channel.

Youi don't need any more power  than the  A370PEQ, it's   matched   for those  drivers .
Jeremy (Folsom) can  help you out with some  upgrades to your  A370 if you    wish

Folsom upgraded my A370's a couple of years ago and it made a minor improvement. I was surprised by the cleaner sound. I recommend the mods after you've exhausted the obvious upgrades to your system.

OK I can ask him the cost and what the mod entails. But I have a pretty decent system: Modwright LS100 Pre with Phono, VPI Classic 2 Dynavector 20X2L cart, Wells Ausio Inamorata power amp , DIY speakers (2 MW16P and TW29R tweeter) all good XO parts and cables. Auralic Vega DAC.
