Signature TVC or Reference C-Core?
« on: 4 Nov 2008, 09:07 pm »
Hi,

I'm very interested in one of the latest revision C-Core TVC preamps.  The ebony finish on the web site (http://www.promitheusaudio.com/reference%20c-core/index.htm) is gorgeous.  What are the differences between these two models (I can't find any information on the website).  The Signature uses a double winding and better switches, correct?  How much of a sonic improvement does this make?  The Reference C-Core looks like an amazing product (let alone something even better).

Thanks,
Nils

Just want to say my Ref C-Core arrived yesterday and i am very pleased.
I ordered with elma switches and when it arrived, i packed The internal spaces with fibreglass wool.
This improved the sound many times, and although i don't have a problem with hum
until turned right up, this noise floor was also improved.
Certainly worth the wait.

Good to hear it works well.

did you try other materials of stuffing?
i am thinking of using cotton.
as a lot of postive vibe from it for audio.
Another material can be silk which is also good for audio

Hi,
No i have not tried many different materials for stuffing although i experimented with wool
and foam but decided that fibreglass was best for me.
I am not fully burnt in yet, so i may need a little time to get the full sonic benefits.

I just got the Reference C core this evening and find it to be more musical compared to the earlier model, which I've owned for a while. The volume control of 2dB on each turn is an excellent choice considering my hearing is not "balanced" and this slight increment makes my listening so much more enjoyble. As for the other improvements, I would say the chasis and ebony knobs will catch the eyes of anyone who comes over for a few tunes.
In this subject of stuffing the unit with wool, cotton, fiberglass, etc.., I'm just curious how this is really done. Appreciate if any of you could share some pictures so that I could join in the action and embrace the possible improvements.
Thanks!

Hi all,

can anyone report their findings with different type of materials ?

I'm particularly interested in cotton wool vs polyfill or something similar.

Thanks

The guy that I bought my transformer buffer from, put a few sheets of copper foil inside.

Nicholas, can you comment on if this is good or bad?
